Questions & Answers
One of the most interesting things about Cockapoos is their outgoing and friendly personalities. They enjoy spending time playing with their humans and other animals. They are known for being exceptionally intelligent and easy to train, making them great companions and ideal pets for families. They are highly adaptable and can thrive in both city and country settings. Due to their hybrid nature, Cockapoos are considered to be a low-shedding breed which makes them a great option for anyone looking for a hypoallergenic pet.
The coat of a Cockapoo is different from that of other breeds. It can range from thick and textured, to thin and wispy, and may come in a variety of colors. As a mixed breed, Cockapoos tend to have a combination coat of both their Poodle and Cocker Spaniel parent breeds. Grooming is required for most Cockapoos since their coat may be prone to matting.
Cockapoos are highly intelligent pooches with active lifestyles so it's essential to provide them with a nutritious diet to ensure they stay healthy. As a small-to-medium breed of dog, they need the right balance of vitamins and minerals to support their activity and growing bodies. For the healthiest and happiest Cockapoo, it's best to feed them a premium dog food that contains wholesome ingredients like chicken and salmon, vegetables, and a variety of grain-free carbohydrates like sweet potatoes and lentils, all provided in a nutritionally balanced formula.
Becoming the best puppy parent for your Cockapoo is an achievable goal! First and foremost, it is important to make sure that your puppy is getting the proper nutrition, exercise, socialization, and veterinary care they need. To ensure your pup is subconsciously learning the behaviors you want them to have, consistent positive reinforcement with treats and praise is a great way to train them. Spend quality time with your pup, create a loving and safe environment, and be sure to stick to a routine for maximum success.
Cockapoos typically grow to be between 10 inches and 15 inches in height, and can weigh anything between 10 and 25 pounds. While this size is smaller than many other breeds, Cockapoos are typically considered medium-sized dogs. The American Kennel Club's (AKC) guidelines also classify them as a medium breed. Thus, they are typically not considered big dogs, but they are slightly larger and heavier than several other breeds, such as Shih Tzus or Chihuahuas.
Cockapoos need regular exercise to stay healthy and to keep their body and mind active. That being said, the amount of exercise depends on the age of the Cockapoo. Puppies who are just beginning to explore their surroundings should be limited to about 15 minutes of exercise per day, as their little bodies are still developing. Once they reach adulthood, a healthy Cockapoo should get approximately one hour of exercise a day divided into two or more play and/or walk sessions.
Cockapoos are usually extremely amicable with other pets in the same household. They're usually great with other dogs and even cats, as long as they are introduced and supervised properly. Cockapoos are people-pleasers and adore the attention and affection of their human and furry companions. Socialization and obedience training are important to ensure positive interactions with other animals. These intelligent and kind dogs usually get along just fine with other animals and typically make great additions to multi-pet households.
Training your Cockapoo is an important part of its development. Start by practicing basic commands such as sit, stay, and come. Make sure to keep the commands simple and to reward your pooch with praise and treats when it does something right. It’s also beneficial to start introducing your Cockapoo to environments outside of the home as early as possible. For example, take your Cockapoo on a supervised walk down the street to get it used to different sights, smells and people. Once your pup is comfortable and well-behaved, slowly increase the distance.
