Questions & Answers
Cockapoos are a hybrid breed that is created by breeding a Cocker Spaniel with a Poodle. They are known for being intelligent, friendly, and often hypoallergenic. Cockapoos can range from tiny toy-sized dogs to large standard-sized dogs. They have a moderate energy level and require regular exercise and stimulation to stay in top form. They are a good choice for families and are just as happy playing in the backyard as they are sitting on the couch.
While Cockapoos may be classified as a "hypoallergenic" breed, it is important to note that there are no 100% hypoallergenic dogs. Cockapoos are a crossbreed, a combination of a Poodle and a Cocker Spaniel. Since the Cockapoo is a hybrid breed, they are typically seen as a more sheds less breed because of the Poodle gene, but specific allergens from a Cockapoo Poodle mix could vary from one dog to the next.
Cockapoos should never be given foods that contain excessive fat, sugar, salt or artificial flavors. Meat bones, rawhide and other chews should also be avoided as these can easily cause a serious obstruction of the digestive tract. Additionally, Cockapoos should not be fed cooked bones, high-calorie human treats or those designed for other dog breeds. Cockapoos are also sensitive to a variety of fruits and vegetables, so it's best to avoid those unless the ingredients and preparation instructions are thoroughly researched.
To prepare for your new Cockapoo, there are several things you should do in advance. First, consider purchasing ample chew toys to alleviate any potential puppy teething or general boredom that your furry friend may experience. Second, create a designated spot for their bedding and blankets that is away from other furniture. It would be best to keep this area in an area without too much foot traffic or noise to provide a peaceful area for them to rest. Third, consider offering treats and drinks in bowls that are specifically for your Cockapoo.
Cockapoos are generally considered small to medium-sized dogs. On average, their height ranges from 10 to 15 inches and their weight is between 12 and 24 pounds. However, some larger Cockapoos can reach heights of up to 20 inches and can weigh up to 40 pounds. Depending on the specific Cockapoo, their size is usually classified as either a small, medium, or large dog.
Cockapoos are usually known for being highly active pets due to their origins of having both a Cocker Spaniel and Poodle parent. Many owners are pleasantly surprised by how playful, mannerly and agile these dogs naturally are. They are known to be quite energetic and excited to go on runs or participate in other outdoor activities. Not only are Cockapoos incredibly active dogs, but they can also be quite intelligent and can enjoy playing interactive games like fetch or obstacle courses.
Absolutely! Cockapoos have all of the reputation for being good family dogs; they are loyal, affectionate, and intelligent. They love to be around people, are easily exercised and don't require a ton of work to keep healthy. As long as they receive plenty of love and attention, they are willing to please their owners and will go to great lengths to do so. They also require regular exercise, but will typically be up for a game of fetch or tug of war. They interact well with children, making them great family pets.
Training Cockapoos is important to ensure they develop into well-behaved, socialized and well-rounded dogs. To ensure your Cockapoo is properly trained, you should dedicate a minimum of 15 minutes a day to training. This includes basic commands such as sit, stay and come when called. Adding in some obedience training and a few tricks will add an additional 10 minutes. Additionally, a minimum of 15 minutes of playtime should be used to socialize your Cockapoo and allow them to play and interact with other dogs.
