They typically weigh between 16-32 pounds and can be quite long and low to the ground with their short legs. They are also known as the "sausage dog" due to their shape! They generally come in three coat varieties—smooth, wirehaired, and longhaired—that can be found in a wide variety of coat colors and patterns.
Dachshunds do not have a non-shedding coat, as their coat consists of two layers of fur an undercoat and an outercoat. The outercoat can be either smooth or wire-haired.
