As working dogs, Golden Retrievers are eager to please, and their willingness to take on difficult tasks has made them excellent assistance dogs for medical, search and rescue, and law enforcement purposes. That same intelligence makes them great companions too, as they are easily trained with positive reinforcement and are highly sociable. They are also very playful, which keeps their energy high and makes them great family pets.
The Golden Retriever coat is well known for its thick, fluffy yet water-resistant double coat. The soft topcoat fur is typically between 1 and 2 inches long, while the thick undercoat adds a layer of insulation and protection. Golden Retrievers usually have a natural “parti-color” pattern, featuring yellow to gold color with white markings.
