Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are a crossbreed between Golden Retrievers and Poodles. They are known for being friendly, loyal, energetic, and smart. Goldendoodles come in many different sizes, from miniature to extra-large. They also come in a variety of colors, including black, white, grey, apricot, and cream. Goldendoodles can live up to 15 years and make an excellent choice for a family pet.
Goldendoodles are known for their low to non-shedding coats. Depending on the parents' genetics, they may be expected to shed very little or no hair at all. Goldendoodles come in different generations, where F1 and F1b Goldendoodles are usually best suited for those looking for a low-shedding dog. The F2 and F2b generations tend to be moderate-shedding dogs.
Goldendoodles typically enjoy a high-quality, well balanced diet that consists of protein, healthy fats, carbohydrates, and essential vitamins and minerals. Generally, a good diet for Goldendoodles should have 30-35% protein, 15-20% healthy fats, and 10-12% fiber. Your Goldendoodle should be receiving a measured amount of food once a day, which should be divided into two meals. Unnecessary treats, in moderation, can be given to reward behaviors or brighten their day.
Goldendoodles can have special requirements, depending upon their particular breed, age, and health status. Generally speaking, these dogs need to be exercised and groomed regularly, and they often benefit from early socialization and behavioral training. Additionally, Goldendoodles can require specific dietary needs, such as high-quality food and regular access to fresh, clean water. Much like any other breed of dog, Goldendoodles should go to the vet for regular check-ups and vaccinations, and any health issues should be addressed immediately.
Goldendoodles come in a variety of sizes, from extra-small to extra-large. They range from 45 to 90+ pounds. On average, most Goldendoodles reach full adult size between 12-15 months. While an adult Goldendoodle can range from 18-35 inches tall at the shoulder, it largely depends on whether it's a standard, medium, or mini Goldendoodle. Standard Goldendoodles can reach a height of up to 24-26 inches tall, while mini Goldendoodles would typically end up between 10-15 inches tall.
Goldendoodles have a moderate to high exercise requirement. As active dogs, they need regular, daily activity to stay healthy and happy. Depending on their age, size, and energy levels, Goldendoodles may need anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours of exercise each day (e.g. walking, running, playing, and swimming). It's important to structure the exercise into multiple, fun activities or walks to avoid boredom. Puppies will need more opportunities for exercise and playtime than an adult Goldendoodle and can usually handle a bit more physical activity and mental stimulation than adults.
Goldendoodles are an ideal breed for many families because they are loving, loyal, and intelligent. These traits make them highly trainable and extraordinarily friendly. They have a fun-loving nature that is playful and easygoing. Goldendoodles tend to be sensitive to children and very welcoming towards guests. They also have low-to-moderate activity levels, making them perfect even for small living spaces. On top of all this, the Goldendoodle's coat is hypoallergenic, which is a benefit for those with allergies or asthma.
Goldendoodles are known for being smart. In fact, they are considered one of the most intelligent hybrid breeds. They are highly intuitive, learn quickly, and tend to be easily trainable. Goldendoodles have an inherent need and desire to please, so with patience and consistency, they can learn a variety of commands and tricks. They are also quite social and enjoy spending time with their families, and their intelligence often translates into entertaining behaviors that can make them great companions.
