Questions & Answers
A Goldendoodle is a designer breed of dog created by crossing a Poodle and a Golden Retriever. Goldendoodles are energetic and generally very friendly dogs, making them a great choice for families who don't want the hassle of extensive fur care. This breed is highly intelligent, loyal, and obedient, and typically very easy to train. Goldendoodles are also relatively easy to groom and maintain they usually only need brushing once or twice a week.
Goldendoodles vary in their degree of hypoallergenic properties, as some may be more or less allergen-producing than others. It is always wise to research the particular puppy you plan to bring home, so as to have a better idea as to how it may affect your allergies. Generally, Goldendoodles are bred to reduce or eliminate shedding in favor of more of an allergen-resistant coat; however, due to the varying effects of individual coats, some may still produce more allergens than others.
Goldendoodles are wonderful family pets with energetic and friendly personalities. Feeding your Goldendoodle a healthy, well-balanced diet is one of the most important gifts you can give them. The best diet for this breed of dog is a high-quality, species-appropriate diet which consists of the right amounts of proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and fat. Feed your Goldendoodle two meals a day composed of a combination of wet and dry food for the best nutritional balance.
To prepare your home for your new Goldendoodle, you should establish a space for the pup to feel safe and secure. Begin by getting a bed that is suitable for its size and age and place it in a quiet corner in your home. Make sure you have sturdy, chew-proof toys for it to play with and give it plenty of space to roam and explore. Provide your pup with plenty of food and water bowls, and if you are toilet training, set up a spot where the pup can go to the bathroom.
Goldendoodles come in a variety of sizes ranging from tiny Toy Goldendoodles, approximately 10-14 inches tall and 10-20 pounds, to the larger Standard Goldendoodles, which can reach heights of over 24 inches at the shoulder and weigh up to 90 pounds. Miniature Goldendoodles, which range from 15-20 inches in height and 20-35 pounds in weight, are another popular size and an excellent choice for apartment dwellers or those with limited space.
The amount of exercise and activity that your Goldendoodle should receive per day is highly individualized, depending on the age, size, metabolism, and overall health of your pup. However, generally a Goldendoodle should get at least 30 minutes of exercise per day. This could mean a leisurely walk, a sustained play session, or other activities like running or swimming. If your Goldendoodle seems to be particularly active, it may be beneficial to give them more than 30 minutes of exercise to help maintain their mental and physical health.
Goldendoodles are well-known as one of the friendliest and most loving of dog breeds. Their intelligence, gentle nature, friendly personality, and eagerness to please make them ideal family dogs. They are generally good with children and get along well with other pets in the home. Goldendoodles have a slightly shaggier coat compared to other poodle mixes, making them great for people who suffer from allergies. They are also easily trained and eager to learn, so they can keep up with a family’s active lifestyle.
Training a Goldendoodle should be approached as an individual and ongoing process. The amount of minutes per day one should dedicate to training a Goldendoodle may differ depending on the individual pup, their age and their experience with basic commands. If this is a puppy, it may take as little as five to ten minutes per day to introduce them to basic commands and everyday routines.
