Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are known for their unique beauty and intelligence. Unlike most hybrid breeds, they have a remarkably even temperament, with few health and allergy concerns, making them a desirable pet choice. Not only are they generally friendly and amiable, they are also highly trainable and respond best to positive reinforcement. One of the most interesting things about Goldendoodles is their ability to form strong, and often life-long, bonds with their owners. This makes them an incredible companion and loyal family pet.
The Goldendoodle's coat is lovely and soft to the touch. Depending on the genetic makeup, the thickness, length, and texture of the coat may vary, with the most popular varieties having a wavy, thick, and fluffy coat. In general, a Goldendoodle's coat is lowto non-shedding, and its colors range from buff to chocolate. The most popular color combinations are apricot, cream, and black.
Goldendoodles can have highly sensitive stomachs, so it is important to be aware of what foods should be avoided when feeding them. The best way to ensure that your Goldendoodle consumes a safe and healthy diet is to consult with a veterinarian who can determine which ingredients are harmful and which are beneficial. Generally, it is wise to avoid any food that is high in fat and sugar, as well as any that contain artificial sweeteners, spices or dyes. Also, it is not recommended to give your Goldendoodle specialty treats such as candy, cakes, and other human food products.
Before getting a Goldendoodle, it is important to have certain essentials such as a crate for them to sleep and relax in, cleaning supplies, food bin and bowls, toys, chunky nylon collars with tags, a brush, a comb, and dog shampoo. Additionally, you may want to consider buying a leash, sturdy chew toys, a toothbrush and toothpaste, treats, pet insurance, and a bed. Allowing your Goldendoodle enough room to play is important, as is making sure that you can take them on a regular walk.
Goldendoodles come in a variety of sizes depending on which type of Goldendoodle you are looking for. Generally speaking, standard Goldendoodles weigh between 50 to 90 pounds and range in height from 20 to 24 inches. Miniature Goldendoodles weigh between 10 to 24 pounds and are typically 14 to 17 inches tall, and then there are the so-called Toy Goldendoodles which are even smaller and usually weigh between 5 to 10 pounds and measure no more than 10 to 12 inches in height.
Goldendoodles are generally considered an active breed of dog that loves to play and stay active. They are typically full of energy and need a lot of exercise to keep their bodies healthy and to prevent any destructive behavior from arising due to boredom. A Goldendoodle should have at least one good walk per day and some interactive playtime, as these activities help their bodies and mind remain active while at the same time strengthening the bond with their owners. Additionally, providing plenty of stimulating and engaging activities, such as food puzzles or learning obedience commands, will help keep them active both physically and mentally.
Goldendoodles, a popular designer breed, are considered to be an excellent family pet, given the right environment and training. Highly intelligent, loyal, and affectionate, Goldendoodles are full of energy and require an active lifestyle. They get along well with children and other animals, but due to their ancestry, they love to hunt and need to be trained accordingly. Their most attractive characteristic is their unique, non-shedding coats, making them perfect for those with allergies. However, they do need to be groomed regularly to maintain their coats and to avoid skin infections.
Training a Goldendoodle requires patience, consistency, and lots of positive reinforcement. Start by teaching basic obedience commands such as “sit,” “stay,” and “come.” Keep training sessions short — no longer than 5-15 minutes — and be sure to include plenty of treats and praise. When training outdoors, try to find a quiet area with minimal distractions. It's important to only introduce one command at a time in order to keep your dog from becoming overstimulated.
