Questions & Answers
Goldendoodles are intelligent, loyal dogs that make great companions. They are a hybrid breed created by crossing a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. They have a low to non-shedding coat, come in a variety of colors and sizes, and can weigh anywhere from 15 to 80 pounds. Goldendoodles can be easily trained and make ideal therapy dogs or service dogs thanks to their friendly, people-pleasing nature. Fun fact: they are the best family dogs because they are very affectionate and kid-friendly.
Goldendoodles have a wonderfully unique coat that is bred in a variety of sizes, from extra small to extra large. Generally, the coat consists of a wooly undercoat and a smooth, wavy outercoat with curls and waves that are often described as a "teddy bear look." The coat can either be straight, loose, or tightly curled.
Goldendoodles are very intelligent and can be trained easily to understand their dietary restrictions. As with any pet, do your research when it comes to what they can and cannot eat. Generally, Goldendoodles should not eat chocolate, onions, grapes, and raisins, as these foods can cause them serious harm. The best way to ensure you know exactly what your Goldendoodle can and cannot eat is to consult with your veterinarian, who will be able to give you accurate information tailored specifically to your dog's individual needs.
The best way to become a great puppy parent while waiting for your Goldendoodle is to become informed. Before you bring your puppy home, research their breed, nutritional needs, and tips regarding training and socialization. Additionally, you should plan for what supplies your puppy will need when they come home, like food, toys, a bed, and a crate. When you are ready to welcome your puppy home, it is important to set rules for acceptable behaviors and establish an exercise and potty training regimen right away.
Goldendoodles come in a variety of different sizes depending on the type of Goldendoodle. Standard Goldendoodles are usually between 50-90 pounds, while Mini Goldendoodles range from 15-50 pounds. Toy Goldendoodles may weigh as little as 6-20 pounds. Additionally, F1b Goldendoodles may come in a variety of sizes, often ranging from 15-50 pounds. No matter the size, Goldendoodles make great family pets and their hypoallergenic coat is a plus!
It is recommended that Goldendoodles should be walked for a minimum of 30 minutes a day to ensure they remain healthy, both mentally and physically. Exercise helps for Goldendoodles to burn off unwanted energy, prevent boredom, increase obedience, and maintain muscle tone. The amount of time that your Goldendoodle needs may also depend on their size and activity level, but a good starting point would be 30 minutes of daily exercise over two walks.
Goldendoodles are typically wonderful family pets and they get along great with children of all ages. They are generally very affectionate and do well with plenty of attention and physical contact. They are also very intelligent and they tend to take cues from their owners, making them an excellent breed of dog to be around kids. In addition, Goldendoodles have a moderate energy level, meaning they are able to keep up with a family's active lifestyle, while remaining content with well-earned leisure time.
Training a Goldendoodle takes daily commitment. Depending on the age, experience level, and desired outcome, the time spent training may vary from day to day. As a general rule of thumb, the American Kennel Club recommends spending at least 15 minutes a day working on basic commands and obedience with your Goldendoodle. To achieve more advanced behavior, such as agility or therapy work, a longer training session of about 30 minutes would be beneficial. It is important to keep in mind that all dogs learn differently and their ability to comprehend new commands will vary.
