Havaneses are classified as a toy breed of dog. Their long, silky coat, expressive eyes and seemingly happy disposition lend to their popularity. They are a relatively small breed, as they only grow to between 7 and 13 pounds and a height of 8-11 inches. They were originally bred as a companion dog on the island of Cuba, which is why they are nicknamed the "Cuban Bichon". Interestingly, they are also known for their great intelligence and liveliness, making them an ideal family pet in addition to their appearance.
It is unlikely that Havaneses will cause you to have allergies. Hypoallergenic dog breeds, such as the Havaneses, are known for their low dander levels, which are known to cause allergic reactions in humans. The breed is widely known for its intelligence, loyalty and calm demeanour.
