Havaneses are considered a hypoallergenic breed of dog. They are widely accepted as a breed who can be tolerated by people who are typically sensitive to pet dander due to their low-shedding, non-seasonal coats. Because their hair is wiry and has the ability to stay in place year-round, it reduces the number of allergens floating around in the air. It is important to note that there is no such thing as a totally hypoallergenic dog, and even the Havaneses can still cause allergic reactions in sensitive people.
It is important to feed your Havanese a diet that is nutritious and tailored to its specific needs. Generally, you should avoid any human foods such as dairy, processed foods, sweets, nuts, and seed as these can be harmful to your pet’s health. It is also not safe to feed your Havanese bacon, ham, chocolate, or any type of fatty meats as these can lead to pancreatitis. Additionally, do not feed your Havanese onion or garlic as these can cause anemia.
Before bringing home your adorable new Havanese companion, it's important to make sure your house is properly prepared. Begin by puppy-proofing your home, like blocking off any off-limit areas with baby gates and making sure any small objects are put away. Make sure to buy all the necessary items prior to bringing your puppy home, including food and water bowls, a bed, toys, treats, a collar and leash, a brush, and any other items you'd like your pup to have.

However, this is a minimum guideline; depending on your Havanese's individual needs, you may need to increase the amount of time you spend walking it. Not only does walking provide exercise, but it also helps maintain a healthy weight and strengthens the bond with you and your furry friend.
