A Maltipoo, also known as a Maltese-Poodle Mix, is an increasingly popular crossbreed of a purebred Poodle and a purebred Maltese. They are often referred to as “designer dogs” because they are the offspring of two purebred parent breeds. Maltipoos typically possess desirable characteristics from both the Poodle and the Maltese, and are typically intelligent, cheerful, loving, and easily trained. They usually reach a height of around 12 inches from the shoulder and weigh approximately 10 pounds.
Maltipoos are a popular hybrid breed of dog that is known for having low to non-shedding coats, which makes them an ideal choice for those dealing with allergies. However, it is important to note that while no dog is 100% hypoallergenic, many Maltipoos come close. This is because breeds such as Maltese, which are often mixed with Poodles, usually have coats that produce very little dander – one of the leading causes of allergic reactions in those with allergies.
Maltipoos are known to have sensitive stomachs, so it is important to feed them a diet that is suitable for their digestive system. Refrain from feeding your Maltipoo foods such as: onions, garlic, raisins, grapes, chocolates, grapes, macadamia nuts, and unripe tomatoes, as these can all be toxic to them.

The variety in size is due to the Toy or Miniature Poodle parent and the Maltese parent. The Toy Poodle parent contributes to a smaller canine ranging from 4 7 pounds, while a Miniature Poodle parent generally lends itself to a larger pup, weighing 7-14 pounds. Depending on the size and weight of the parents, when crossed, they can combine to create an offspring that is larger or smaller than the parent breeds.
Maltipoos are an active breed of dog, so they require plenty of exercise to maintain their health and well-being! An adult Maltipoo should receive a minimum of one hour of exercise a day, preferably divided up into two or more exercise sessions. This can include playing fetch, walks, and even swimming. It's important to adjust the intensity and duration of exercise according to the age and physical condition of your dog older and younger Maltipoos may need shorter exercise sessions. Exercise also helps to reduce behavioral problems and keep a Maltipoo mentally stimulated.
