Questions & Answers
One of the most interesting things about Pomskies is that they are an incredibly unique breed! Pomskies are a hybrid of the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky, a breed combination that has only recently been introduced into the designer dog world. Pomskies generally have bright, friendly personalities, enjoy interacting with people but are also independent and able to entertain themselves with play and activities. They are known to be very active and require plenty of physical and mental stimulation. They are frequently described as affectionate, loyal, and attentive with their owners, making them highly desirable family companions.
Managing allergies with a Pomsky can be achieved by using hypoallergenic grooming products, limiting exposure to pollen, and diet restrictions. Grooming products such as those designed for dogs with allergies can help reduce dander, while limiting exposure to pollen can be done by avoiding areas with known sources of the allergen and keeping windows and doors shut when needed. Additionally, certain foods tend to make allergies worse.
Pomskies, being a hybrid of the Siberian Husky and the Pomeranian dogs, have unique needs and dietary requirements when it comes to feeding them. Generally, the diet of a Pomsky should be high in protein with moderate fat and carbohydrates. A good diet for a Pomsky should consist of high-quality proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids. Protein should make up the main component of the diet (about 18%), while fat should take up 14% of their daily diet.
Preparing your home for your new Pomsky is an important step in welcoming them to their new family. To ensure a smooth transition, there are certain steps you should take to create a safe and comfortable environment for your pup. First, be sure to puppy proof and prepare your home, securing cords, hiding cleaners, and hiding away objects they may see as chew toys. Next, make sure that any potential escape routes are blocked off so they can freely roam and play without causing any unintentional mischief.
On average, Pomskies range from 10-20 pounds and will usually reach 10-15 inches at the shoulder. Although some may be larger than this, most are smaller. Generally, the size of a Pomsky will depend on the size of the parents and the type of breeding used. If the parents are both small, the pup will usually be smaller as well. More often, a breeder will only use larger Pomeranian and Siberian Husky parent dogs to ensure the resulting offspring are medium to large.
As a general guideline, Pomskies should get about 30 minutes of exercise per day, with a minimum of 20 minutes of walk time. The exact amount of time will vary depending on the individual dog's age, size, overall health, and breed, but 30 minutes provides a good foundation for health and activity. Keeping in mind that walking is just one of many activities you can do with your Pomsky, make sure to mix up their routine with short play sessions, a trip to the dog park, or a game of fetch in the yard.
Generally, Pomskies get along well with other household pets if socialized properly from a young age. If introduced to one another gradually and with guidance from their owners, Pomskies and other animals can establish a friendly relationship, as long as all of the animals involved are comfortable with each other. Also, keeping Pomskies well-exercised both physically and mentally can help them stay calm and relaxed when around other animals. With patience and attentive owners, Pomskies can be a great addition to a household full of different pets.
The amount of daily training that Pomskies need depends on a variety of factors such as their current level of obedience, age, breed, and energy level. Generally, pups should start with short 5-10 minute training sessions, and once basic commands are learned gradually increase the length over time. Depending on the situation, puppies may need several shorter sessions or one longer one that is at least 15-30 minutes. As the pup matures and has learned obedience basics, training can be up to an hour per day or more.
