Questions & Answers
Pomskies, also known as a Pomeranian-Husky mix, are hybrid dogs belonging to the Spitz class, which is a group of dogs that features fox-like characteristics, such as a thick double coat and a curled tail. As a hybrid breed, Pomskies have characteristics from both the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky, and come in many sizes and colors. The breed may have a fluffy double-coat, be shy and independent like the husky, or have a stubborn side like the Pomeranian.
Pomskies are not a recognized breed and are a new hybrid mix of a Pomeranian and Siberian Husky, so it is difficult to definitively answer the question of whether they are hypoallergenic or not. While some may produce fewer allergens than others breeds, there is generally no guarantee that any particular Pomsky will be hypoallergenic. From a general standpoint, the Siberian Husky breed is not considered a hypoallergenic breed and one should exercise caution if looking to bring a Pomsky into their home, especially if the family has a history of allergies.
Pomskies should not be fed any product labeled as ‘growth-promoting’ or ‘high-protein’ as these can result in skeletal deformities. Human food, such as chocolate and onions, should also be avoided. Furthermore, unbalanced diets or other poor quality foods can also cause health issues for your Pomsky. Instead, provide a well-balanced diet specifically designed for its age and condition; food for active dogs or young puppies should be different. Do your research to find the right food for your beloved pet, and keep away from commercially processed foods.
Preparing your home for a new Pomsky can be a big task, but it can also be a fun and exciting one! Start by puppy-proofing your home. Be sure to remove any objects that may be hazardous to the pup, such as poisonous plants. An easy way to help ensure your pup doesn't get into any trouble is by establishing boundaries and doggy-proof rooms and areas like the kitchen and bathroom. Next, be sure to purchase the right supplies. Plan to have food, water bowls, a crate, toys, a bed, and grooming supplies for your pup.
It's impossible to predict the exact size of your Pomsky puppy as this breed is known to be extremely variable in terms of size. On average, full-grown Pomsky puppies usually reach heights of 10-15 inches and weigh anywhere between 15-30 pounds. However, some Pomsky puppies may be larger or smaller than the typical size range. To get an idea of how big your puppy may be when fully grown, look at the sizes of the parents to see if there are potential size ranges.
Absolutely! Taking your Pomsky running can be a great way to stay in shape and bond with them. Before beginning a running routine, however, make sure you discuss exercise requirements with your veterinarian and build their endurance up gradually. Additionally, the best time to run with a Pomsky is in the cooler parts of the day, as they can overheat quickly. For hot days, consider shorter runs in shaded areas or opt for low-impact exercise instead.
Pomskies are generally known for being good-natured, friendly dogs. As a hybrid between two breeds of dogs, they typically get along well with other pets. It is important to introduce any new pets gradually and carefully to help ensure harmony in the home. Socialization is key for all pets to make them comfortable with different animals and people. You will want to start the socialization process early, when your Pomsky is still a puppy, to help them adjust to their environment. With patience and consistent positive reinforcement, your Pomsky should be able to get along well with other pets.
Pomskies are generally thought of as intelligent dogs. They are a mix of the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky, two breeds that are both known for their intelligence. Pomskies usually come with a lot of energy, so they need an owner who can provide them with both mental and physical stimulation. They are highly trainable and tend to pick up commands quickly, so it's easy to teach them tricks and help them reach their full potential. They really thrive when given plenty of attention and positive reinforcement.
