Questions & Answers
Pomskies are one of the most intriguing and unique dog breeds out there. What sets them apart is that they are a crossbreed between the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky, resulting in a breed that maintains the best features of both purebreds; they are strong-willed and athletic while also being intelligent and loyal. Their thick, double coat and tall, pointed ears give them a beautiful, exotic look that is hard to resist.
Pomskies are not a breed recognized by the American Kennel Club, and there is no guarantee that they will be hypoallergenic. The breed is a cross between the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky breeds, and average Pomskies will have a mix of traits. Since each individual dog will vary, allergies to a Pomsky are quite unpredictable. Hypoallergenic dogs are not entirely non-allergenic, as no living creature is.
Pomskies should never be fed human food such as processed meats, nutella, sweets, salty snacks, raw eggs, dairy, or dark chocolate. These can cause serious medical issues and be potentially fatal. Additionally, Pomskies can quickly become overweight due to their small size so it’s important to make sure they have a nutritious diet of high-quality kibble designed for their specific breed size and energy levels. A veterinarian can provide further guidance on what should be given and the optimal amounts.
Before you get a Pomsky, there are some essential items you should consider purchasing. A secure and safe collar with tags for your Pomsky's identification is crucial. A leash and a harness for going for walks is paramount. A bed or a crate for sleeping and napping should also be considered. You'll also want to make sure you have plenty of toys for your Pomsky to play with. Remember to pick up proper grooming supplies such as brushes and combs. You should also invest in a few treats to reward your pup when he follows a command or exhibits good behavior.
Pomskies have become a very popular hybrid breed in recent years. While many people assume that they are big dogs due to their Husky parentage, the truth is that Pomskies are generally considered to be a small to medium-sized breed usually somewhere between 15 and 30 pounds and up to 18 inches tall. That said, variations of the breed can vary in size and some Pomskies can reach up to 40 pounds. Generally, they tend to be larger than your typical Pomeranian but smaller than your average Husky.
One of the best things you can do for your Pomsky is to give them regular exercise. The amount of exercise they need depends on several factors such as age, health, and activity level. Generally speaking, adult Pomskies should have several walks per day, and a total of at least 30 minutes of exercise. To ensure your pup stays healthy and happy, it's best to keep their walking routine consistent. A good guideline is to aim for around 30 minutes of walking per day, divided into two or three 15-minute walks.
Pomskies make wonderful family pets as they enjoy interacting with people, including children. Generally, Pomskies are very playful and friendly, making them excellent companions for kids of all ages. As with any new pet, it is important to be mindful of the size and energy level of the Pomsky when introducing it to young children, as an overexcited pup could inadvertently hurt a small child. Proper supervision should be maintained when your Pomsky is around children.
Every Pomsky's training requirements are different. Generally speaking, plan to set aside about 10-20 minutes per day to train your Pomsky. This short and consistent daily training time is more effective than trying to fit it all into one long session. Make sure to provide rewards after successful completion of a command or task and lots of positive reinforcement. With these strategies, and enough patience, your Pomsky should be able to pick up new commands and behavioral cues in no time!
