Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a unique designer breed of dog, combining the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky dog breeds. They come in a variety of colors, including black and white, grey and white, and buff and white. They usually weigh between 15 to 25 pounds and stand between 8 to 15 inches tall at the shoulder. Pomskies are highly intelligent, friendly, loyal and loving companions who make great family dogs. They are usually curious and friendly, and do well with children.
Pomskies can range in coat type depending on their genetics, so the amount of shedding they do can vary. While they are not typically hypoallergenic dogs, they tend to have minimal shedding and not leave as much fur around the home as more heavily shedding breeds. That being said, daily brushing and grooming is highly recommended to keep their coats healthy and prevent matting. Furthermore, regular dental care and ear cleaning are necessary for these dogs as they can easily accumulate wax and debris. With regular care, they can easily become a low-shedding companion.
It is not recommended to feed Pomskies human food since many human foods can cause upset stomachs, adverse reactions, and other medical issues for Pomskies. Chocolate, caffeine, macadamia nuts, and grapes are especially hazardous and should never be fed to a Pomsky. Additionally, overfeeding of high-protein foods can lead to a deficiency in vitamin E in Pomskies, as well as an increase in calcium intake which can cause problems with the skeletal structure. Feeding your Pomsky a balanced diet is the best way to keep them healthy and happy.
As the proud owner of a Pomsky pup, it's important to ensure your pup is well taken care of. First and foremost, provide your pup with regular veterinary care for vaccinations, check-ups, and flea/tick protection. Be sure to feed your pup a balanced diet and ensure plenty of exercise and play, such as taking your pup for walks or teaching obedience with basic commands. Educate yourself on proper grooming techniques to keep your pup healthy and comfortable. Provide plenty of mental stimulation with interactive toys and puzzles.
Pomskies are hybrid dogs, bred from crossing a Pomeranian and a Siberian husky. As a result, they come in a variety of sizes, ranging from 8-20 pounds. Toy Pomskies are typically 8-10 pounds and Standard Pomskies will fall between 12-20 pounds. Small and medium-size Pomskies are the most popular and many owners enjoy keeping them as a small companion. As designer breeds, Pomskies are known for having a beautiful, fluffy coat, which requires frequent grooming and brushing, regardless of size.
Absolutely, you can take your Pomsky running! This active breed of dog is built for running, and loves any activity that allows them to get out and explore the world with their owner. Before you do so, it is important to make sure that your dog has been conditioned to running for extended periods of time. As with any breed, you will want to avoid running your Pomsky in excessively hot or cold weather. Following an exercise routine agreed upon between you and your veterinarian is the best way to ensure that your Pomsky stays safe and stays healthy.
Pomskies can make great pets for first-time owners! They are generally very gentle and loving, and due to their small size, they're easy to manage and tend to. They also tend to be quite intelligent so training and obedience courses can be fun and relatively straightforward. Many pomskies also like to cuddle up and be with their owners, adding to the love and companionship they can bring. Pomskies can need lots of exercise, however, so it's important to be able to provide enough stimulation and activity for them.
The best way to train your Pomsky is to be patient and consistent. Establish a routine for rewarded behaviors like going outside to use the restroom, staying off furniture, and playing nicely with toys. Praise your pup for good behavior and use treats or positive attention to reward them. Offer commands like "sit" and "stay," and practice them frequently. Once your pup understands a command, add a distance and duration component. Over time work on more complex concepts like walking on a leash, coming when called, and more.
