Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a hybrid of two different breeds of dogs a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. They are classified as a hybrid because they are a cross between two purebred AKC registered parents, but are not recognized by the AKC as a separate breed. Pomskies range in size from approximately five to 25 pounds and vary in appearance, depending on the traits and characteristics inherited from their parents. On average, a Pomsky will have a thick, fluffy coat, large triangular eyes and a pointed muzzle.
While there is no guarantee that having a Pomsky will be completely free of allergies, there is a good chance that it won't cause any reactions. Pomskies are a cross between a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian, and both breeds generally don't have any dander that is known to trigger allergies. However, if you do have a history of pet allergies, it would be wise to make sure you spend plenty of time with a Pomsky to ensure you don't have an allergic reaction.
Pomskies are considered small to medium-sized dogs and should be fed with a high-quality ‘Small Breed’ dog food. The amount of food your Pomsky requires will depend on its age, size, metabolism and activity level. As a general guide, most Pomskies should be fed twice a day, in the morning and early evening. The food should be served at room temperature or slightly warm, as these breeds can be sensitive to cold. Always provide plenty of fresh, clean water.
To become the best puppy parent for your Pomsky, first it is important to do your research. Learn about the common needs and characteristics of a Pomsky, such as activity level, temperament, and nutrition needs. Next, create a safe and comfortable environment for your puppy. Give him plenty of exercise and attention and allow him plenty of opportunity to play and explore his environment. Socialize your Pomsky early and often to help him become a well-adjusted and confident pet. Provide consistent and positive training and reward behaviour that you want to see.
It depends on your definition of small. Generally speaking, Pomskies are considered to be medium-sized dogs. However, their size can vary depending on the size of the parents. The Pomeranian parent often contributes to a smaller stature, while the Siberian Husky parent can result in a larger, more robust size. So while Pomskies can be considered small when compared to breeds such as the Labrador retriever, they can also be the same size as other medium-sized breeds like the Irish Wolfhound or the Bouvier des Flandres.
Pomskies need moderate to high levels of daily exercise to keep them healthy and happy. Ideally, Pomskies should get 1-2 hours of exercise every day, broken up into playtime, walks, and other activities. Exercise allows them to stay physically fit, release energy, and practice important obedience training that can keep their behavior in check. Additionally, mentally stimulating activities like agility courses and puzzles can help keep your Pomsky from becoming bored and anxious. Regardless of the type and length of exercise, be sure to provide plenty of breaks, especially in hot or cold weather.
Pomskies are generally superb with kids of all ages. They are smart and loyal companion dogs that bring a lot of fun, energy and joy to any household they inhabit. Their affectionate and playful nature creates an ideal pet for families with children, as playing with them is guaranteed to make everyone smile. Pomskies have a patient tendency and a moderate activity level, so they are not too intensely hyperactive and won't exhaust your little ones.
Training your Pomsky is an important part of their development as a pet. The key to training your pup is consistency and patience. Begin by creating a consistent schedule for feedings, potty breaks, and exercise. Make sure to reward your pup with treats or verbal praise after a successful task. Teaching basic obedience commands such as 'sit', 'stay', 'come' and 'down' are essential because Pomskies are highly trainable and can learn complex tasks. Start teaching commands in an easy, distraction-free environment and work up to more complicated tasks.
