Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a relatively new designer breed, derived from a combination of an Eskimo Spitz and a Pomeranian. They are an incredibly intelligent dog that have an extremely friendly disposition. They tend to be active and energetic, making them a great companion for those who enjoy an active lifestyle. These pups also love attention and can become quite attached to their owners, so they are not suited for those who are away from home for long periods of time. They tend to be quite vocal, so it is important to teach them when they need to be quiet.
Pomskies are hybrid dogs that are bred from a mix of a Pomeranian and Siberian Husky parents, so their genetics can vary greatly. On average, these dogs are low-shedding and can inherit their coat from either of their parents. However, it doesn't necessarily mean that they are non-shedding because some individuals may inherit the Pomeranian's shed-prone coat type. It is best to speak to the breeder if you are concerned about shedding and they will be able to give you more information about the pup you are considering.
Pomskies are a crossbreed between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, so when it comes to what to feed your Pomsky, there is not one right answer. Generally, your pup should be fed a high-quality dry food, ideally one made from real, recognizable ingredients that is appropriate for their age and activity level. It should also include fresh vegetables and fruits to provide additional vitamins and minerals. Cooked proteins such as boiled chicken, fish, or eggs may also be beneficial for your pup.
Preparing your home for your new Pomsky pup is an important step in getting them settled into your home and making them feel at home. Start by assigning them a spot in your house that is safe and comfortable. Make sure to add a few comfortable beds and toys so they have something familiar when they arrive. To keep your Pomsky safe, create a secure environment by checking your home for anything that could be hazardous, like an open garbage can, toxic cleaning supplies, or any small trinkets that they may try to put in their mouths.
Pomskies come in a variety of sizes, ranging from very small to quite large. Generally, a full grown adult Pomsky will weigh anywhere between 8 to 30 pounds, with larger sized Pomskies typically being the heaviest. Generally, the more purebred Pomeranian or Siberian Husky a Pomsky contains, the larger the size they will grow up to. However, size can also vary greatly depending on how closely the puppy resembles the parent. Ultimately, it is impossible to predict the exact size that a Pomsky will reach until they reach full maturation.
Absolutely! Taking your Pomsky running is an excellent way to keep your pup's body in shape, while providing physical and mental stimulation. To ensure your pup stays safe and healthy while running, it is important to consult your vet for a check-up if you haven't already, and understand what type of exercise is most suitable for your Pomsky's age, size, and breed. Additionally, it's best to start off with short runs and gradually increase distances over time. Be sure to bring along plenty of water for your pup, and take regular breaks in shaded areas.
Pomskies typically make wonderful family companions and do well with children when properly trained and socialized. They are not the type of breed to lash out or be aggressive towards children, as long as they’re treated with respect. Since they can be quite energetic, it’s important to make sure kids know how they should act around a Pomsky. It's important to educate them on the dog’s limits and training commands so they can both coexist in peace and harmony.
Training a Pomsky can be a rewarding experience, but it isn't always easy. There are numerous things to consider, such as the breed's natural traits, the level of obedience already instilled in the pup, and what kind of environment the pup will be in. A well-balanced Pomsky will need plenty of positive reinforcement and consistency. If you can manage to provide an environment that allows them to feel safe and secure, they will be more likely to be open to learning.
