Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a unique and popular breed. Not only do they make wonderful companions, but they're also highly intelligent, energetic dogs that require plenty of exercise and stimulation to remain content. One of the most interesting qualities of Pomskies is their ability to form strong bonds with their owners, and they will often show loyalty that is greater than that of other breeds. They also have an outgoing nature and enjoy spending time with people. Additionally, Pomskies often possess a fascinating blend of the characteristics of both the Pomeranian and the Husky.
Unfortunately, Pomskies cannot be considered a low-shedding breed, as they are hybrids between a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian so can be prone to shedding. Pomskies have a double coat, like their Husky parent, and that means they can shed moderately throughout the year, and heavily twice annually. Regular brushing of the coat can help control and reduce shedding, as well as using pet wipes to help pick up any excess hair on the furniture, carpets or soft furnishings.
Pomskies are mixed breeds, bred from a combination of Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian. As such, they have the dietary needs of both parent breeds. Generally, Pomskies have a meat-based diet – either kibble or canned – supplemented with fresh fruits and vegetables. They should be provided with nutrient-rich products, preferably those made with high-quality proteins like chicken and lamb. Dogs of the Pomsky breed typically require feeding three or four times per day. Food should be easy-to-eat and digestible with no harsh chemicals, additives, or fillers.
Before bringing home a Pomsky, it is essential to prepare your living space for the pup. Start by getting all the necessary supplies for your new pup such as a bed, food bowl, collar, leash, and chew toys. If the pup is not already housebroken, pick up some potty pads and waste bags so you can quickly clean up any accidents. You may also want to consider getting furniture covers or pet gates so your pup won't chew on them.
Generally speaking, Pomskies come in all sorts of sizes. The breed has been known to range in size from toy all the way up to medium-sized, as well as anywhere in between. Each individual pup will vary in size according to the size and breed of his or her parents. Size estimates and characteristics of the parents will usually provide a good idea of what size the pup is likely to grow into. Ultimately, the size of a given Pomsky will depend on how much each parent contributes their size genetics to the offspring.
It's important to keep your Pomsky active, and a good way to do this is by having them walk for at least 20 minutes per day. Walking not only helps keep your pup active, but it can also help them stay healthy by strengthening their muscles and helping them stay fit. 20 minutes of walking also helps stimulate them mentally, as it gets their blood flowing, allowing them to stay alert and active. It's a great way to bond with your pup and give them the physical and mental stimulation they need.
Pomskies, which are a hybrid of a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, can make fantastic family dogs and can get along particularly well with children. Generally, these designer dogs tend to have mellow personalities and a love for cuddles, making them great around kids! Pomskies can be receptive to training and like to please their owners, so teaching them basic commands in a calm and positive setting can help to further bolster their already gentle and loving behavior.
Training a Pomsky takes time and dedication from its owner. Generally speaking, it is recommended to spend about 10-15 minutes each day training your Pomsky. With this amount of daily training, your Pomsky will eventually be able to grasp basic commands such as sit, stay, come, and stop. Additionally, you may choose to include puppy playtime or activities such as puzzles and other interactive games which can help keep your Pomsky mentally engaged.
