Hot Tips for Eliminating Labradoodle Tangles from a Pro

Labradoodles are one of the most adorable dog breeds out there. But this cuteness comes at a price: matted fur. Many dog owners wonder how they can possibly keep tangles out of their Labradoodle’s fur.

Fortunately, keeping your Labradoodle’s fur in great condition isn’t as hard as you may think. The secret? Being consistent with grooming. It may sound basic, but brushing multiple times a week will keep your puppy’s fur free of nasty tangles.

What You’ll Need To Brush

Before you begin brushing, make sure that you have all of the right tools. You won’t need much, but will want to make sure that everything you have is high quality. The tools will last you much longer, and make the job a lot easier.

Here’s a short list of what you’ll need:

Slicker Brush

Nothing special here. Just a high quality brush with thin needles. For most Labradoodles, this should be able to bust any tangles in their fur

Rake for their undercoat

Labradoodles are one of the breeds that have an undercoat, where many of the knotty tangles may form. To keep their undercoat in good shape, get and undercoat rake. It’ll help straighten out their fur and prevent tangles from forming

Mat splitter

This is a tool that should only be used for really serious tangles. It’s a type of one sided blade that you can use to cut out hair that just won’t come undone. But only use this as a last resort.

Comb

Combs are another great way of dealing with heavy tangles, and they’re a bit gentler than a mat splitter. You’ll want one that has long and fairly sharp teeth. And always be careful when you use a comb on your dog, as the teeth can irritate your Labradoodle’s skin

Brush Frequently

Now that you have the tools, you just need to make sure that you brush every few days. This will keep your puppy’s fur in great shape, and actually avoid any thick tangles from forming.

Go To A Groomer

If you still can’t get the tangles out, put down the scissors and call a groomer. They’ll probably do a much better job than you, and can get the tangles out without causing too much damage to your dog’s fur.
