If you’re like us, you probably love your Goldendoodle’s fur. Unfortunately, these luscious locks do have one downside: they tend to get tangled without proper grooming.
The good news is that getting your Goldendoodle puppy’s fur detangled isn’t that much of a headache. Here, we’ll show you how you can keep your puppy’s coat in pristine condition.
The easiest and most effective way of getting tangles out is with regular brushing. This will keep the fur in good condition, and prevent large tangles from forming in the first place. For Goldendoodles, you should try to brush about 3 times a week.
Although brushing is fairly easy, you’ll want to make sure that you have all of the right tools. Here’s what you’ll need to get started:
Slicker brush
This is the staple, and the tool that you’ll use the most. For a Goldendoodle, you’ll want a brush with thin but strong wires that will help you brush through tangles
Rake for the undercoat
Dogs breeds such as Goldendoodles have a mix of different hair types. You can buy rakes that are designed to reach the fur in the undercoat, which helps you straighten out deep tangles
Heavy comb
This is another great tool when you’re trying to bust those stubborn tangles or knots. You’ll want to choose one that has thick, strong teeth. Just make sure that you don’t apply too much pressure, as these combs can cause your puppy some pain
Tangle splitter
For really serious cases, you can you a tangle splitter. This is a type of blade that gently cuts out knots. But do be careful, and avoid cutting out too much fur.
Treats
Grooming is not every dog’s favorite activity. And it can be quite stressful to have a human pulling out large knots. That’s why you should always have plenty of treats to help keep your puppy calm
Once you have all of the tools you need, you’ll want to make sure that you have a good place to groom your dog. Remember, grooming can be a bit stressful. Try your best to find a place where your dog feels calm and relaxed. And try to position them so that they are comfortable.
You’ll also want to groom them in an area that is easy to clean, as it can sometimes be a bit of a mess. If you can, brushing outside is always a great option.
Sometimes, even the most persistent dog owner won’t be able to get all of the tangles out of their Goldendoodle’s fur. But don’t worry! There are ways to manage these tangles.
Just make sure that you aren’t using scissors. In a desperate attempt to get rid of tangles, some owners will try to cut them away. Unless you have the right experience, this can be a really bad idea.
Put the scissors away and call a professional groomer. They can easily get the tangles out without mangling your dog’s coat. And you might be surprised at how affordable groomers are. In fact, many will even come to your home!
