Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a hybrid dog breed, created by crossing a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. These dogs combine the beautiful characteristics of both breeds, resulting in a loyal, intelligent, and friendly pet. When fully-grown, they usually stand at around 12 to 15 inches at the shoulder and can weigh anywhere from 12 to 30 pounds. They often have thick, soft fur that comes in an array of colors, from cream, black, and gray to gray and white.
Pomskies are not hypoallergenic. This hybrid breed is a combination of a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, so they have a mix of the two breeds’ coat types. They can either have fluffy coats inherited from the Pomeranian or a thick double coat inherited from the Husky, both of which are prone to shedding.
Finding the best food for Pomskies can be a challenge since they're a hybrid breed. Overall, they are considered to be quite active and agile which suggests they need only the highest quality nutritional ingredients. Before selecting any type of dry food, it is important to read the ingredients label carefully. Look for ingredients like real meat, natural fruits, and vegetables that provide the necessary proteins, vitamins, and minerals to ensure their health. Dry food with high-quality proteins and a variety of grains (not wheat) is recommended.
Before welcoming your new Pomsky into your home, it is important to ensure that your home is ready for its new four-legged resident. To start, find a good spot to set up their bed: somewhere in the home that won't be too crowded and allows your pup plenty of personal space. Make sure to also invest in all the necessary supplies, such as dishes for food and water, a comfy bed, chew toys, treats, and a leash and collar.
It is impossible to accurately predict the exact size a Pomsky puppy will grow up to be. However, using the average size of the two parent breeds, a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, the pup is likely to be between 10 to 15 inches tall and weigh somewhere between 10 to 30 pounds as an adult. Since the size of a Pomsky puppy will be determined by which parent breed is more dominant, it's important to get your pup from a breeder who can provide insight into the puppy's parentage.
Absolutely! Taking your Pomsky running is a great way to give them exercise and bonding time. Pomskies are very active little dogs and long runs are excellent for their physical and mental health. However, you must make sure you do so safely. Your pup should always wear a harness when running to ensure he or she is secure, and you may want to start slowly with shorter runs while building up stamina. It is also important to know the signs of heat exhaustion in Pomskies, as they are especially sensitive to hot temperatures.
Pomskies can make excellent family dogs if they have proper socialization and training. They can be loyal and affectionate with their families, but may sometimes act overly protective and bark to alert. With extra planning, preparation, and commitment, Pomskies can be great family companions. Their intelligence and independence make them eager to learn and they respond well to firm yet positive reinforcement. On the other hand, Pomskies can have an independent streak and may run away if left alone. Therefore, proper containment and obedience training are necessary to ensure their safety.
It is recommended that Pomskies get a minimum of 15-20 minutes of consistent exercise each day. This will help keep them from becoming anxious or destructive when you’re not around. However, when it comes to training, the amount of time you should spend depends on the individual. Every Pomsky will have different needs and learning speeds. Some may only need 10 minutes a day while others might do better with 30 minutes of structured play or activities. Ultimately, it’s best to observe your particular pup and see what amount of training works best for you and your Pomsky.
