Medium Goldendoodles sit between standard Goldendoodles and mini Goldendoodles on the size spectrum, and happen to be just right for many Doodle owners.
The medium Goldendoodle is increasingly becoming the favorite dog of tons of families around the world, and your family might be next! Keep reading for more information on the middle child of the Doodle family.
Like their big brothers, medium Goldendoodles are bred by crossing a Poodle and a Golden Retriever. Typically, dogs tend to be around the average height of both parents, which is why smaller varieties of Poodles are used to breed medium Goldendoodles.
Medium Doodles preserve the friendliness and outgoing nature of the Golden Retriever and the intelligence and allergy-friendly coat of the Poodle.
Likewise, skilled breeders also strive to minimize negative traits the parent breeds might exhibit while maintaining consistent coat and temperament across all generations of their Goldendoodle puppies.
Medium Goldendoodles range from 17-20 inches and weigh anywhere from 30-45 pounds.
While size can vary greatly across different types of Goldendoodles (and even among breeders), the important thing to remember is that reputable breeders excel at preserving that famous Goldendoodle temperament regardless of how big or small their dogs are.
It’s certainly not an easy task, but always keep that in mind rather than basing your decision solely on what size of dogs your breeder has available.
If you don’t own a large home with a big yard, your first thought might be to simply buy a smaller dog. And while big dogs certainly don’t enjoy being cramped up in an apartment all day, scaling the size of your desired breed down with your house doesn’t always work.
That’s because Goldendoodles of all sizes are very playful and energetic, and need daily exercise to stay happy and healthy.
With that said, the amount and intensity of exercise required by a medium Goldendoodle doesn’t mean that you have to be a professional athlete to own one! Doodles are perfect for families of all sizes, just as long as you can spare some time every day for your furry friend.
