Questions & Answers
Cockapoos are a fascinating cross-breed of English Cocker Spaniel and Poodle that can come in a wide range of sizes and colors. One of the most interesting things about Cockapoos is their free-spirited and highly intelligent personalities. Cockapoos are often referred to as "velcro" dogs, because of the intensity of their loyalty and affectionate nature. They love people, other animals, and making new friends! Cockapoos are also well known for their easy-going temperament and ability to adapt to almost any situation.
Cockapoos are generally considered to be a hypoallergenic breed. This is because the hybrid nature of Cockapoos provides a significant reduction of the gene pool dedicated to producing a certain coat and therefore reduces a person's chance of experiencing an allergic reaction. With that being said, Cockapoos are not completely hypoallergenic, so many people may still experience an allergic reaction to them. It is ultimately a case-by-case situation as each owner and potential allergen sources will vary.
Cockapoos should not be fed raw chicken, beef, fish, eggs, or dairy products, as they can contain parasites, bacteria, and other potential contaminants. Providing chocolate, avocados, macadamia nuts, grapes, or raisins is also strongly discouraged, as these can cause severe digestive issues and even toxicity. Instead, owners should stick to commercially-available, high-quality foods designed specifically for Cockapoos. Serving human foods as treats in moderation is acceptable, though owners should ensure these foods are safe for Cockapoos to consume.
Although Cockapoos have low to moderate energy levels and generally require fewer daily walks than other breeds, they still need regular activity and exercise to stay healthy and happy. Regular playtime and brisk walks will help them stay in shape and alleviate boredom and destructive behaviour. Like all dogs, they require regular grooming, nail trimming, health check-ups at the vet, and proper training. Beyond this, Cockapoos have different needs depending on their specific age and size.
Cockapoos are not typically considered large dogs. While some may reach over 30 pounds, the average weight of a fully grown Cockapoo generally falls between 13 and 18 pounds. So, compared to many other breeds of dog, Cockapoos are considered small to medium size. Furthermore, Cockapoos are a mixed breed, so their size variety greatly depends on their parent breeds, usually a cross between a Poodle and Cocker Spaniel. Ultimately, the size of a Cockapoo will vary from dog to dog, but overall, they are generally considered small to medium-sized dogs.
Every Cockapoo is unique and will have its own physical needs. Generally speaking, it is recommended that Cockapoos be taken for a walk at least twice daily, lasting at least 20 minutes each time. This will give your pup the exercise and stimulation he needs to remain healthy and active. If possible, increase the walk duration to keep your pup in top shape and build his endurance. You may even consider taking your Cockapoo on longer hikes or runs, depending on your pup and his energy levels.
Absolutely, Cockapoos are terrific family dogs! As they are a mix between Cocker Spaniels and Poodles, they inherit the best traits of both breedsintelligence, gentleness, an eagerness to please, and a friendly disposition. These charming dogs are devoted and loyal to their families, and also get along well with other animals and children. Unlike some breeds, Cockapoos require minimal grooming, and they love going on long walks and playing outdoor games. Additionally, Cockapoos are highly adaptable, making them suitable for small spaces and apartments.
Cockapoos are thought by many to be smart dogs with excellent problem-solving skills and the capacity to learn quickly. A cross between the intelligent Cocker Spaniel and the Poodle, these designer dogs excel in intelligence and often have higher energy levels than many of their purebred counterparts. This breed is recognised for its clever disposition and can often figure out new tasks and commands in less time than other breeds. They have an affinity for learning, as well as an eagerness to please their owners, which makes them an excellent companion pet.
