Questions & Answers
Labradoodles are an incredibly intelligent, loyal, and friendly breed of dog. They are often sought-after family pets due to their pleasing nature and happy-go-lucky attitude. Labradoodles are a cross between the Labrador Retriever and the Poodle, making them a superbly low-shedding breed. Grooming may still be necessary however, depending on the coat texture. Labradoodles have a high activity level often requiring daily exercise, so they are ideal for homes with families that enjoy spending time outdoors.
Labradoodles are considered to be an increasingly popular breed of dog, and questions often arise about whether or not they are hypoallergenic. The answer is complicated, as this trait does not exist in Labradoodles specifically, but rather in different types of hypoallergenic coats that some may have. Hypoallergenic coats are typically either wavy or curly, with a high level of feathering around the legs, belly, and chest.
Labradoodles are a cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle. As such, they require an averagely balanced diet that caters to the appetite and nutrition needs of both breeds. Ideally, the food should be designed specifically for medium to large-sized breeds and should be high in protein and minerals. Labradoodles should be fed a diet consisting of quality kibble, raw meaty bones, and grain-free premium canned or raw food. It should also include vegetables and fruit to ensure a balanced diet, as well as promote a healthy skin and coat.
Labradoodle dogs should be provided with all the same care as any other breed. They have a moderate activity level and may require regular exercise such as daily walks or play time. Their coat may require regular brushing or may need to be trimmed by a groomer every 6-8 weeks. Labradoodle requires socialization training as puppies or grown-ups to help them learn good manners and become better adjusted around other dogs and people. Nutrition is essential for Labradoodles and premium quality dog food should be provided.
Labradoodles can come in a variety of sizes depending on the type of breeding that takes place. Most Labradoodles are created by crossing a Labrador Retriever with a Poodle, and the Labradoodle size is dictated by the size of its parent breeds. Typically, Labradoodles come in three sizes: standard (22-24 inches and 50-65 lbs), miniature (13-17 inches and 15-30 lbs), and toy (10-12 inches and 10-15 lbs).
Labradoodles absolutely love to swim! These highly intelligent pups are built for the water--their waterproof coats and webbed feet being some of their most advantage features when it comes to swimming. Although Labradoodles may not instinctively know how to swim, they can usually learn very quickly with the help of their owners and proper training. Not only is swimming worthwhile from a physical standpoint, but it can provide Labradoodles with an incredible chance to exercise their minds as well.
Labradoodles are known for being friendly, energetic, and great with kids! Generally speaking, Labradoodles do make very good family pets because they are so gentle and affectionate towards kids. In fact, Labradoodles do especially well in families with young children since their even-tempered and loyal nature makes them a great companion for children. These dogs love to please their owners and their happy-go-lucky personality connects particularly well with kids, making them an ideal choice for households that include youngsters.
Training your Labradoodle requires consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement. Start with the basics such as teaching them the commands 'sit', 'stay', 'come', and 'down'. You can begin by giving your Labradoodle a treat when the command is given correctly. Praise your Labradoodle when they get it right and be patient with them if they have trouble understanding the commands. As your Labradoodle learns the basics, you can move on to more advanced commands such as “leave it” or “look”.
