Questions & Answers
Labradoodles are a unique hybrid breed derived from a cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle. This breed is often categorized with its own “Designer dogs” or “Hybrid Dogs”, and are often coveted due to its low-shedding qualities as both parents are single-coated dogs. Labradoodles can have different sizes and coat types, and because of this, can be considered as a mixed-breed or multi-generational hybrid, depending on the parentage.
Labradoodles are a type of hybrid breed, so their shedding characteristics will vary. Their parent breeds, the Labrador Retriever and the Poodle, both have low-shedding coats, however the level of shedding that a Labradoodle will experience is unique to each individual dog. Generally speaking, Labradoodles will have a coat with minimal shedding but some may have more than others. It is important to groom your Labradoodle regularly in order to keep their coat healthy and prevent excess shedding.
Labradoodles typically enjoy a nutritious diet that includes quality dry kibble, wet food, raw food, and fresh fruits and vegetables as treats. They are often prone to food allergies, so it is important to watch out for specific ingredients, such as wheat, corn, and beef, that could trigger a reaction. Labradoodles benefit from an assortment of healthy ingredients such as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, lean proteins, and important vitamins and minerals. In addition to their main meals, Labradoodles should also be given plenty of water to stay hydrated.
To best prepare your home for a new Labradoodle, you should make sure to approach it methodologically. First, pet-proof the areas your pup will have access to. Put away anything toxic or hazardous and consider installing child locks or chew repellents to help protect your belongings. Additionally, find an area to crate train your dog; this will not only help with their bathroom training but will also keep them safe while you are away. Make sure to provide all the necessary items for your pup such as food, water, bedding, toys and treat puzzles.
Labradoodles can vary in size depending on their genetic makeup, so they can technically be considered both small and large dogs. It typically depends on whether they have a Miniature Poodle or Standard Poodle in their lineage. The average Labradoodle tends to range from 14 to 24 inches in height and 15 to 35 pounds in weight when full-grown, with the smaller specimens being more closely associated with the "small dog" label. However, there are also some that exceed this size and can grow quite large, though still relatively compact compared to other breeds.
Labradoodles are extremely active dogs! They have boundless energy and need a lot of exercise and stimulation to keep them from getting bored, which can lead to destructive behavior. They excel at activities such as agility training, fly ball, frisbee, and other outdoor activities like hiking and swimming. Labradoodles are also great running companions and have been known to go on 5 to 10-mile runs. With their intelligence, they are able to learn lots of tricks and other commands to help keep them happy and active.

Additionally, it is important to provide consistent reinforcement through positive reinforcement (treats, attention) and regular exercise (walks, playtime). It is also useful to have two or three short training sessions during the day instead of just one extended session.
