The Labradoodle is a medium-sized hybrid breed that is a cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle. Labradoodles can be a combination of different sizes depending on their parentage, with some standing as tall as 24 inches and weighing as much as 90 pounds. The American Kennel Club does not recognize the Labradoodle as a registered breed however, they are recognized by other breed registries such as the American Canine Hybrid Club and the International Designer Canine Registry.
The Labradoodle coat can vary depending on its individual genetics. They typically have a soft and fluffy, wiry, or sometimes curlier coat that may shed lightly or not all. They may have a short, medium, or long coat, and their coat colors can range from black, white, brown, cream, gold, red, parti-colored, and phantom. They often have a scruffy or shaggy appearance, but they can look sleek or curly too.
Labradoodles should not be given any human food as it may be too salty or may contain substances that can negatively affect their digestive health. It's best to stick to a high-quality kibble designed specifically for Labradoodles, such as one from a trusted pet food brand that caters to their dietary needs. Additionally, Labradoodles should never eat items like chocolate, grapes, raisins, onions, garlic, macadamia nuts, or any type of candy, as these can all be dangerous and even deadly for them.
Preparing for a new Labradoodle requires thought and attention to detail. First, set up a safe space in your home for your pup with an area for eating, playing, sleeping, and for going to the bathroom. If possible, puppy-proof the environment before bringing your pup home, including hiding or moving any choking hazards, anchoring cords, and blocking any nooks and crannies off-limits to your new baby.
Labradoodles come in three different sizes; Standard, Medium, and Miniature. The typical size of the Standard Labradoodle ranges anywhere from 24 to 26 inches tall and weigh 45 to 66 pounds. Medium Labradoodles typically range anywhere from 18 to 20 inches in height and weigh around 30 to 45 pounds. Miniature Labradoodles are usually between 14 to 16 inches in height and weigh between 15 to 25 pounds.
Labradoodles are a high-energy breed, so it's important to make sure they get enough exercise. On average, a Labradoodle should get around 60 to 90 minutes of physical activity a day. This should include activities such as running, playing in the yard, retrieving toys, and taking long walks. With the proper amount of exercise, Labradoodles will be happy and healthy. It's important to start young puppies off with more frequent, lower-intensity exercise, and build up to longer, more intense exercise as the puppy matures.
Generally speaking, Labradoodles are very friendly and outgoing with other animals. They love making friends, whether they are of the four-legged or two-legged kind! They tend to get along well with other pets, provided they are socialized properly as puppies. Moreover, they tend to be sociable with cats if they're introduced gradually and well-supervised.
