Labradoodles are a hybrid, designer breed. They are a mix of a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle, and due to the cross-breeding, can come in various sizes and colors. Labradoodles are considered to be a smart and active breed, have an easygoing personality, and because they are a relatively new breed, do not tend to inherit the same health issues as purebreds. Their coat and shedding levels can vary, depending on the genetic makeup, as can intelligence and activity level, since different breeds' traits can arise with the hybrid.
Although Labradoodles may be considered hypoallergenic because they do not shed much, the answer is a little more complicated. Labradoodles can technically be classified as hypoallergenic because their coat limits the amount of dander released into the air that could cause allergic reactions. However, Labradoodles are not completely hypoallergenic. The coat of a Labradoodle is a combination of coat shed from both the Labrador Retriever and Poodle breeds. What this means is that much of what someone is allergic to still exists in the coat.
Labradoodles generally have similar dietary needs to other dog breeds and their nutritional needs can depend on their size, level of activity and medical condition. Like all dogs, Labradoodles should be fed with a healthy, balanced and age-appropriate diet composed mainly of proteins with moderate amounts of fat and carbohydrates. Generally speaking, you should strive for 30 minutes to 1 hour of activity per day for an adult Labradoodle, although this can vary depending on the individual. These 30 minutes to 1 hour can consist of walking, playing in a fenced-in area, or just running around in the backyard. Puppies usually need more exercise than adults, around 1 to 3 hours, while senior Labradoodles may need to have their exercise regimen adjusted to match their age and energy level.
Labradoodles are known for being friendly and sociable dogs, and many do get along well with other pets. In general, early and proper socialization will help them establish a positive relationship with other animals in the home.
