Questions & Answers
Labradoodles are a unique and popular designer breed, developed by crossing a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle. Technically, Labradoodles are considered a hybrid breed because they are not a breed recognized by the American Kennel Club. Generally, Labradoodles are classified as a family-friendly and highly intelligent dog, though sizes always vary, ranging from miniature to standard. They also come in many colors and have low shedding coats that require regular grooming to ensure optimal health and hygiene.
The Labradoodle coat can be any combination of soft and silky, straight, wavy, or curly. It is sometimes referred to as a hypoallergenic coat because it is a mix of a Labrador Retriever's short, water-repellent coat and Poodle's non-shedding coat. Many Labradoodles also have a slight wave in their fur that makes it look softer than regular Labrador Retrievers.
Labradoodles, like most dogs, should not be given human food such as chocolate, gum, onions, garlic, grapes, and raisins because they can make your pup sick or even lead to death. Additionally, many Labradoodles are allergic to dairy products, so you should avoid giving them milk, cheese, and yogurt. Labradoodles have sensitive stomachs and can't handle certain raw foods, including raw meat, raw fish, and uncooked eggs.
Preparing for a new Labradoodle can be an exciting but overwhelming experience. To best prepare, start by researching the breed, understanding how much exercise and grooming they need, and deciding if a Labradoodle is the right fit for you or your family. Secondly, purchase the essentials such as food, water, and travel bowls; food and water dishes; a leash and collar; pet gates; a bed; toys; pet wipes; and other supplies.
The size of your Labradoodle puppy may vary as some Labradoodles are a larger standard, while others are a smaller miniature. Standard Labradoodles generally reach full size at around two years of age and can stand between 20-24 inches at the shoulder and weigh anywhere from 40-65 pounds. Miniature Labradoodles reach full size at around 18 months and can stand between 10-15 inches at the shoulder and weigh anywhere from 15-35 pounds.
Labradoodles are an active breed of dogs, and they require regular exercise to stay healthy and happy. They have a friendly and outgoing personality, and love being walked, playing Frisbee, or going for a swim. They're particularly fond of activities that involve interaction with their owners, such as participating in advanced obedience training or agility competitions. In addition to needing daily exercise, Labradoodles also require regular brushing and grooming in order to keep their coats looking their best.
Labradoodles make wonderful family pets as they are very loyal and affectionate. They are very family-oriented and are great with children.
