Questions & Answers
Labradoodles are considered to be a relatively new hybrid breed of dog, first bred in the late 1980s. They're known for being smart, happy, and loyal companions. One of the most unique things about Labradoodles is their non-shedding hypoallergenic coat. The coat variation is dependent on the percentage of Labrador Retriever and Poodle in the dog's genetic makeup, along with several other factors. Generally, Labradoodles come in a variety of sizes, colors, and coat textures, making them extremely versatile.
The Labradoodle coat is usually quite thick and soft. They tend to have a wool-like texture that's relatively non-shedding. The most common color of a Labradoodle coat is apricot, though they can also be black, white, chocolate and even mixed-breed tones. For the most part, their coats are wavy and low-allergenic. Some Labradoodles have straight coats while others have the traditional curl-like texture associated with Poodles.
Labradoodles should not be fed any food that is not specifically created for them, as they are a crossbreed that has different dietary needs than traditional Labrador Retrievers. Also, Labradoodles should not be fed human food or any type of table scraps, as these can make the dog overweight, cause digestive problems, and are not nutritionally balanced for them. Certain food items should be avoided all together including chocolate, coffee, onions, raisins, grapes, and macadamia nuts.
Before introducing your new Labradoodle to your home, you should take some simple steps to make sure it will be a safe and comfortable place for you and your pup. Start by puppy-proofing your home by covering up any outlets or wires, securing any loose objects that your pup may be tempted to chew, and removing anything that may be toxic or pose a health risk. Create an area to keep your pup's supplies like food and toys. Make sure to establish clear boundaries and designated areas for your Labradoodle in your home.
Labradoodles come in a variety of sizes, depending on the type of breed used to parent them. Miniature Labradoodles will typically range in weight from 15 to 25lbs and will usually reach a height between 13 and 18 inches. Medium Labradoodles, which are bred using a larger parent breed, will typically weigh 30 to 45lbs and reach between 18 to 22 inches tall. Standard Labradoodles will typically range in weight from 45 and higher, with a height of 22 inches and above.
For optimal health, exercise is an important part of owning a Labradoodle. It is recommended that you should have your Labradoodle walk for at least 30 minutes up to an hour everyday. That being said, the exact amount you should walk your dog depends on their age, breed and health. Generally, you can break up your Labradoodle's daily exercise in 15-minute increments. This could include playing outdoors, a leisurely walk, going for a jog, or engaging with interactive toys.
Labradoodles are indeed known for their friendly and affectionate temperaments, making them excellent companions for families with children. They are gentle and loving, as well as highly intelligent and trainable, meaning they learn to behave properly around kids relatively quickly. Not to mention, they have plenty of energy to keep up with active children during the day, so you don't have to worry about them getting overwhelmed or bored. In short, Labradoodles can make wonderful playmates for kids and are sure to bring joy to any family.
Labradoodles are intelligent and easy to train – but it can take effort to do it right. Consistency is key when it comes to training your pup. Start by teaching them basic commands, such as “sit”, “stay” and “come”. Break down each lesson into manageable chunks, and reward your Labradoodle every time they get it right. Always remain patient and calm, but firm never overly raise your voice. Additionally, ensure to provide plenty of attention and affection, for even the simplest of achievements.
