Questions & Answers
Labradoodles are a popular crossbreed dog, the result of breeding a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle. They can be either miniature or standard size, depending on the size of the two parent breeds. Labradoodles possess qualities from both of their parent breeds, such as intelligence, an easy-going nature, a loyal and loving temperament, and, of course, the coveted hypoallergenic and non-shedding coats. As such, they make wonderful family pets as they tend to form strong bonds with their owners and get along with other animals.
Labradoodles are a hybrid of Labrador Retrievers and Poodles, and therefore the answer to the question of whether they might cause someone to have allergies will depend on the individual and on the Labradoodle itself. Generally, Labradoodles are considered to be hypoallergenic dogs, as they do not have fur and the shedding associated with traditional breeds. However, since each dog is different, it is important to consider that pet dander and saliva can cause allergic reactions in some people.
Labradoodles should not be given any food that is too spicy, salty or sweet, as they can result in gastrointestinal issues. Also, Labradoodles should not be fed anything with too much fat, as it can cause obesity and cardiovascular problems. Human fermentable foods, like breads, cakes, chocolates and sweets can lead to excessive gas production and cause diarrhoea in Labradoodles. Raw meat, poultry, eggs, fish, dairy products, meat bones and even raw vegetables can cause potentially serious bacterial infections such as Salmonella, E.
Labradoodles can be a great addition to the family, and with some preparation, you can ensure a smooth transition. Before bringing your new Labradoodle home, make sure to research proper diet and exercise routines. Also, be sure to purchase all the supplies you’ll need ahead of time such as food bowls, crate, toys, treats, grooming supplies, and a collar/leash. Additionally, it’s important to set boundaries and rules for your dog as soon as he/she comes home.
Labradoodles come in three different sizes, ranging from small to large. The small size Labradoodle, often referred to as a Miniature Labradoodle, typically stands at around 14-16 inches high and weighs around 15-30 pounds. The Medium Labradoodle can reach heights between 17 and 20 inches and usually weighs in between 30 and 45 pounds. Finally, the large size Labradoodle stands between 21-24 inches tall and weighs in the range of 45-65 pounds.
Labradoodles absolutely love to swim! In fact, many Labradoodle owners have noted that their four-legged friends are very enthusiastic about hitting the water. Whether you have a lake, swimming pool, or other body of water available, your Labradoodle will be thrilled to take a dip. On top of being great exercise and a source of enrichment, swimming is also beneficial for Labradoodle health. Taking regular swims helps to keep their coats and skin clean and healthy, while also providing a great cardiovascular workout for your pup.
Labradoodles are famously known for their gentle and loving personalities, making them excellent companions for children of all ages. Generally speaking, Labradoodles tend to have a great temperament around kids, as they are social, affectionate, and easygoing. With early socialization, they can learn to get along and remain calm around children. In addition, children who grow up with a Labradoodle can learn responsibility by caring for them. Groom them, feed them and play together all of this can create a healthy and strong bond between a Labradoodle and a child.
Training a Labradoodle is not too difficult, but it takes patience, consistency, and lots of treats. To start, create a positive, reward-based training environment by providing ample treats, verbal praise, and plenty of breaks. Make sure to keep sessions short. With distraction methods and the incorporation of playtime, you can keep your pup's attention. Establishing a recall command should be a priority, and can be built upon when teaching other commands such as sit, stay, and come.
