Numerous combinations of poodle and Labrador Retriever genetics result in everything from a straight, wiry coat resembling a Labrador Retriever, to a fluffy, curly coat resembling a Poodle, and all sorts of variations in between. They also come in a lot of different colors, from pale yellow and white to dark chocolate and black. Not only that, but Labradoodles are known for being very intelligent and loyal family pets.
Labradoodles can be non-shedding, depending on their heritage and genetics. While a labradoodle can have a coat type like a Labrador Retriever, they can also have a varying mixture of coat types. In most cases, labradoodles have a wavy or curly coat that may be non-shedding if they take after their poodle parent. Non-shedding coat types typically require regular grooming and can be considerably more high maintenance than a shedding coat.
Labradoodles should not be fed anything with a lot of sugar or high-calorie snacks as they are prone to overeating and can easily become overweight. Avoid giving them bones, rawhide or any type of sharp object which may become an obstruction when swallowed. Grapes and raisins are also not recommended for Labradoodles as they can cause kidney failure in some breeds. Foods to also avoid include macadamia nuts, onions, garlic, chocolate, and caffeine, as these can be highly toxic or cause vomiting or diarrhea.
Labradoodle's are known for being low-maintenance and require similar care to that of a normal family pet. However, it is important to understand that Labradoodles are a hybrid breed and may require additional requirements for exercise and nutrition compared to their purebred counterparts. Exercise is essential to keep them healthy and active, as well as to help them with their socialization. Regular brushing of their curls and occasional trimming to maintain the shape of their coat are also necessary. Grooming may also help to reduce the amount of shedding and possible allergens.
