Questions & Answers
Labradoodles are a fun and spirited breed of pup! A Labradoodle is a cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle, so they combine the loyal, obedient nature of the Labrador Retriever with the intelligence and non-shedding coat of the Poodle. Since they don't shed much, they are often used in people's homes as hypoallergenic companions.
Labradoodles often have very low-shedding coats due to their hybrid status. Although some Labradoodle coats may shed like their Labrador Retriever lineage, others may not shed at all like their Poodle side. Generally, Labradoodles that are bred with a more Poodle-like coat are less likely to shed. Labradoodles with a wavy or curlier coat are often non-shedding. Additionally, Labradoodles that are bred with a higher percentage of Poodle will likely experience minimal to no shedding.
Labradoodles should never be fed currants, onions, garlic, raisins, grapes, avocados, or nuts as they can all be hazardous to their health. Chocolate can cause heart problems, so should be avoided at all costs. Be mindful of the foods you have around the house, and never give table scraps to your dog, as it can lead to obesity. Keep your Labradoodle away from caffeinated beverages, alcoholic beverages, or any food that has been sweetened with xylitol, as these can all have serious health consequences.
Labradoodle's do require regular grooming and exercise to help keep their coats slim and healthy. They also require a lot of socialization to help grow into an emotionally balanced dog. Without proper training and socialization, Labradoodle's can become anxious and bark excessively. Diet is also important – overfeeding can lead to health issues. Owners should pay attention to their Labradoodle's needs for proper nutrition and should check in with a vet for any advice. As with any dog breed, they should be spayed and neutered to help reduce risks of health and behavioral problems.
Labradoodles come in a variety of sizes, depending on their parent breeds. Standard Labradoodles typically reach sizes between 24 inches and 26 inches in height, and can weigh anywhere between 50 and 65 pounds. Miniature Labradoodles typically reach sizes between 14 and 16 inches in height, and can weigh anywhere between 15 to 25 pounds. Lastly, miniature Labradoodles typically reach sizes between 10 and 14 inches in height, and can weigh between 12 and 20 pounds. All Labradoodles have much longer life spans than their parent breeds, on average 12-14 years.
The amount of daily exercise your Labradoodle needs depends on their age, size and general health. Generally speaking, Labradors are an active breed and require at least an hour of exercise a day, including at least 30 minutes of walking. When younger, your Labradoodle should be walked for at least twenty minutes twice a day. As they age, this should be increased to 30 minutes once or twice a day. Older dogs might need more frequent breaks and should be walked for shorter periods.
Labradoodles are an incredibly social breed and tend to get along well with children, especially because of their intelligence combined with a high energy level that makes them very trainable and eager to please their owners. Labradoodles are known for their kind and gentle natures, making them excellent playmates for kids and absolutely wonderful family pets. They have the ability to quickly bond with those around them, so children and Labradoodles can form strong attachments to each other when given the opportunity to interact on a regular basis.
Yes, Labradoodles are very smart. They are even said to have a higher than average intelligence when compared to other breeds. Versatile and agile, Labradoodles can easily excel at a variety of tasks and obedience training. They are usually eager to please, quick learners, and very responsive to commands. In addition, Labradoodles are known for their friendly and social nature, making them good family dogs and great companions. All of these attributes make them a very intelligent and highly desirable breed.
