Questions & Answers
Labradoodles are a hybrid breed created by crossing a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle. These lovable dogs come in a variety of sizes, coat colors, and temperaments. Generally, they range from 14 to 24 inches in height, have wavy or curly coats, and are affectionate and intelligent. Labradoodles are recognized by many Kennel clubs around the world; however, they still remain a hybrid, and therefore are not officially a "breed".
Labradoodle coats can vary in length, color, and texture, but on the whole the breed is known for having a soft, wavy or curly coat. The Labradoodle's coat can range from low-shedding and wiry to soft, smooth and lowor min-shedding. The most common colors are chocolate, cream, black, white, silver, and apricot, though there are a range of other possibilities. In terms of length, the coat can either be medium to long in length, or clipped short like a show poodle's.
Labradoodles are a popular breed of dog that are highly intelligent and loyal, and they require quality nutrition to stay healthy. Unfortunately, there are certain things that should not be fed to Labradoodles, as some foods can make them sick or even prove fatal if ingested. It is best to avoid giving Labradoodles chocolate, grapes, raisins, macadamia nuts, avocados, caffeine, alcoholic beverages, garlic, onions, dairy products, bread dough, and bones. Foods containing sugar should also be avoided, such as candy and candy coating.
Before getting a Labradoodle there are several essential items you will want to purchase. First, a strong and sturdy leash to keep your pup safe on walks and outings, as well as a good collar, ID tags, and a muzzle if you'd like additional peace of mind. You'll also need food and water bowls, as well as a comfortable bed or mat and toys for interactive play and mental stimulation. Finally, consider investing in grooming supplies like a brush, nail clippers, toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo, and towels.
The ultimate grown size of your Labradoodle puppy will depend on the characteristics of the parent dogs, as Labradoodles are a mix of two different breeds. Generally, the size of a full grown Labradoodle will range from small to medium (15-25 inches for the shoulder height) with a weight range of approximately 10-50 lbs. However, Labradoodles may be taller or smaller depending on the size and body type of the Labrador Retriever and the Poodle that is bred.
Labradoodles generally have an affinity for water and swimming being that both parent breeds are renowned for their swimming abilities. Most Labradoodles love to swim and take to water sports such as retrieving and paddle boarding very well. As an added bonus, it makes for a great way to keep both body and mind active, which is important for the breed to maintain its strong physical and mental health. Swimming is also a great way to create a strong bond between you and your Labradoodle, as they need to trust and feel safe in the water.
Labradoodles are intelligent and loyal dogs known for their easy-going temperament and social personalities. As such, they typically get along very well with kids. These pups have a strong desire to please and are therefore considered great family dogs. The Labradoodle's patience and friendly winter mean they are perfectly suited to living with children. They generally love to play and entertain a young audience, especially when the kids behave in a respectful manner.
The amount of time you need to train Labradoodles each day depends on many factors such as their age and how much training they've already had. However, as a general rule, it's a good idea to dedicate at least 30 minutes each day to training your Labradoodle. That allows enough time to work on commands as well as reinforcing positive, desired behaviors and gradually introducing new ones. If your Labradoodle is quite young, you may need to extend the amount of training time to get proper results.
