Labradoodles are a hybrid, or designer, breed of companion dog that are a cross between the Labrador Retriever and the Poodle. Created in the late 1980's, Labradoodles combine the best traits of each parent breed. These dogs often have the loyal and friendly personality of the Labrador Retriever, combined with the intelligence and non-shedding coat of the Poodle. Depending on the dominant breed in the mix, Labradoodles come in a variety of sizes, anywhere between 15 pounds to over 80 pounds.
Labradoodles are relatively non-shedding, but may vary depending on the genetic characteristics of the parent breeds that contributed to the mix (Poodle and Labrador Retriever). Some Labradoodles may contain coats that are more prone to shedding while others may have virtually no shedding at all. It all varies depending on the genes the Labradoodle inherits from its parents.
