Labradoodles are a popular hybrid breed of dog, resulting from a breeding between a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle. They are very intelligent and friendly, often making wonderful family pets. Their coat can vary significantly, from tight and curly to straight and low-shedding, and their colors range from black and brown to cream and apricot. Labradoodles require lots of exercise, so they are best suited to active households or families who spend a lot of time outdoors. They're also generally good with other animals, making them very social pets.
Labradoodles have unique coats that can be quite varied from one pup to the next. Generally, a Labradoodle coat is known to be a little wavy, often thick but very soft, and can be short to medium in length. The texture and amount of shedding depend largely on the generations and bloodline of the Labradoodle in question. For example, some Labradoodles may have more of a wiry texture, while others may have a super soft coat reminiscent of a Retriever.
Labradoodles are known to have different dietary needs depending on their age, size, and lifestyle. Consider investing in some training treats to help you teach the puppy good behaviors such as potty training, not urinating in the house, and not chewing on furniture. Make sure to have lots of chew toys available.
Labradoodles can range drastically in size, depending on their parent breeds. The smallest will measure typically 14 to 16 inches tall and weigh 15 to 25 pounds, whereas the larger sizes can reach as tall as 24 inches or more and weigh upwards of 70 pounds. To further complicate size and weight estimations, Labradoodles can come as a miniature, standard, and even a giant size. In all likelihood, a Labradoodle may be a combination of all three sizes. Ultimately, size will depend on the Labradoodle parent-lines and the decision of the breeder.
The amount of time that you should walk your Labradoodle each day can vary depending upon your pup's age and general level of energy. Generally speaking, it is recommended to provide your Labradoodle with around 45 minutes to 1 hour of exercise per day. This can be broken up in multiple walks of 10-15 minutes each, or you could take your pup on a nice, leisurely 45-minute stroll. Keep in mind that your pup may need more or less exercise depending on their age and energy level.
